Deine Position

At 1KOMMA5°, we connect and manage distributed energy devices at scale. As the Lead Engineer of our IoT Platform Team, you will take ownership of the technical foundation behind our 1K5 Heartbeat Gateway, the edge device that securely connects thousands of energy assets with our cloud ecosystem.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership at the crossroads of embedded Linux development, connectivity infrastructure, and hardware enablement. You will be responsible for ensuring that our gateways are secure, reliable, and updateable at scale, while enabling observability, scalability, and seamless developer workflows.

Your work will directly shape the reliability, security, and resilience of our growing energy network, making renewable energy smarter, more connected, and future-proof.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers working on the IoT platform ensuring alignment with company mission and technical excellence.
  • Own the design, development, and maintenance of the IoT platform that powers the 1k5 gateway fleet. Architect for scalability, resilience, and observability at scale; define best practices for coding, releases, and developer enablement.
  • Lead development of messaging & connectivity (Eclipse HONO, MQTT), log collection, and observability services.
  • Drive customization of the Yocto-based Linux distribution and maintain hardware drivers for peripherals.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of security mechanisms such as secure boot and OS-level protections, in close collaboration with the security team.
  • Own the OTA (Mender-based) update processes, ensuring safe rollouts, rollback mechanisms, and robust versioning.
  • Lead gateway hardware enablement including PCB design and flashing stations, support supply chain colleagues with BOM management, and drive certification processes.

Technologies you will work with include:

  • Google Cloud Platform, Eclipse HONO, MQTT, OTEL, Mender.
  • Go, Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Embedded Linux customization (Yocto), hardware driver development, secure boot.
  • Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, BOM management, product assembly, flashing stations, CE certification workflows.

    Dein Profil

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in IoT engineering.
  • Proven experience in leading projects in IoT and cloud-edge solutions. Ability to set direction and make architectural decisions.
  • Track record of translating complex technical challenges into clear priorities and deliverables.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of application-layer services (messaging, observability, connectivity), OTA update frameworks, and device security.
  • Ability to operate across the full stack: from low-level device software and OS customization to cloud connectivity and developer enablement tooling.
  • Proficiency in Go.
  • Expertise in embedded Linux development (preferably Yocto) and hardware driver integration, with a track record of delivering production-grade edge devices.
  • Hands-on knowledge of hardware enablement, including board design, BOM management, flashing stations, and certification processes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Bonus points for:

  • Contributions to open-source projects in IoT, embedded Linux, or connectivity.
  • Track record of patents, publications, or conference talks in IoT or embedded domains.
  • Experience building developer communities or internal enablement programs around IoT platforms.
  • Hands-on work with compliance & certification procedures.
  • Exposure to mechanical design processes and injection molding technologies.

We are an ambitious and dynamic company with a talented team. We require our engineers to be imaginative, enthusiastic, and willing to tackle new challenges as we strive to provide everyone with renewable energy technologies.
