The Role:

The Head of Design role - is a full-time permanent position, the role will report to the Global Head of Product The role is based in Sydney with hybrid working options; however, a full-time remote position in another location may also be considered within Australia

You will work in close partnership with the Chief Technology Officer and Global Head of Product to craft and deliver beautifully simple, intuitive user experiences for our global software platform, empowering customers in 130 countries, while having a massive impact in accelerating the world’s shift to clean energy.

As the Head of Design, you will help guide our strategy and be hands-on, leading design initiatives across a diverse range of product areas. With strong foundations in user centric design and cross functional collaboration, you will ensure a consistent look and feel of our product and deliver industry leading experiences that customers love, across all screens; desktop/laptop, tablet and mobile.

We are in the midst of evolving and updating our UI and Design System and you will be instrumental in bringing our next generation product vision to life.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and contribute directly to design work - especially during key initiatives - across the full lifecycle: from concept, flows, wireframes, and prototypes to polished UI.
  • Define and evolve the UX design strategy aligned with product vision and business goals, with a strong focus on usability, simplicity, and scalability.
  • Champion for human-centered design principles and champion the importance of design throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate closely with user research, including interviews, surveys, usability testing and analytics, to understand user behaviors, needs and pain points.
  • Translate user insights and business requirements into personas, user journey maps, user flows, wireframes and interactive hi-fidelity prototypes to effectively communicate design concepts and interactions.
  • Create hi-fidelity UI designs, including layouts, color schemes, typography and iconography that align with brand guidelines and user needs across both web and mobile applications.
  • Apply best practices in typography, color theory and layout to create engaging and accessible designs.
  • Participate in design reviews and present design concepts to stakeholders, providing clear rationale and incorporating feedback to iterate and improve designs.
  • Work closely with Product Owner, Engineers and Testers to ensure the seamless integration of design solutions into the development process.
  • Proactively identify UX challenges and opportunities across the product portfolio, especially in complex and high-impact product areas (e.g., Studio and Auto-Design).
  • Strong technical ability with Figma - creating, collaborating and sharing designs from wireframe stage all the way through to simulated prototype.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Being able to understand the technical side of things and provide feasible solutions in collaboration with PMs / Devs.

What you’ll need:

  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in UX/UI design
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of successful user-centered design projects, including designing for apps in a technical field, with a productivity focus.
  • Expertise in UX design tools such as Sketch and Figma
  • In-depth knowledge of user-centered design principles, design thinking, usability best practices, interaction design, information architecture and Agile methodologies
  • Strong visual design skills
  • Solid understanding of front-end development technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript and React and their impact on design feasibility
  • A passion for climate and a desire to personally make an impact on decarbonizing the world
